Pineapple Log Cabin Amish quilt in rich earth tones
This log cabin is quilted in the ditch, which is a lot of fabric to quilt through by hand. The curling tendrils quilted around the outer sash contrast nicely with the geometry of the logs, however, the logs themselves are the stars of this quilt by virtue of the beautiful prints out which they are made. (Item 2003)
We haven’t had a Postage Stamp Patchwork quilt in 8 years. Each square of fabric is the size of a postage stamp. It’s perfectly pieced and hand quilted throughout. You’ll never tire of looking at this classic quilt – every time do, you’ll see something different. (Item 1057)
A Spinning Star Amish quilt that’s just filled with surprises!
Our Amish Spinning Star (or Star Spin) is heavily hand quilted. The maker created the central star medallion, as well as all of the other stars and sash work in this quilt, using a wide array of rich print fabrics. The background fabrics are shadow patterned to provide even more visual interest. The more you look at this quilt, the more you’ll see. (Item 1016)
Applique quilts are difficult to make and time consuming to finish. This Country Roses quilt is filled with hand cut and appliqued roses, buds, leaves bows. The maker chose shades of blue and green and hand appliqued all elements over a light background for contrast. She also appliqued a garland of roses with a bow on the portion of the quilt that will cover your pillows. A unique feature of this particular quilt is that the maker also appliqued a garland of flowers around the quilt’s edges. The entire quilt is heavily quilted with some very precise and complimentary hand embroidery and a binding of contrasting fabric.

Vintage (plus new!) Hand Sewn Hand Quilted Throw or Wall Hanging
This blanket is a mix of vintage and contemporary components. Purchased at an estate sale in New Milford, CT in the 1980’s we believe the fabrics are from the 1960’s. We love the muted, soft colors – especially since we no longer see them in today’s quilts. The quilt top was sewn together by hand and we felt it would be a shame to not finish it, making it into the contemporary quilt it deserves to be. We used a high loft batting, a soft pale blue cotton fabric for the back and added hanging loop and then hand quilted it into existence.
The result is a cozy, warm blanket (or throw) – great for napping. There is also a hanging sleeve sewn onto the back of the throw should you prefer to hang it on a wall. We love it!
Bargello Quilt – and ancient pattern adapted to make this beautiful quilt
The Bargello design, also called a “flame stitch,” was originally stitched into canvas and primarily used to make upholstery. In this case, a traditional Bargello pattern was adapted to create the Amish quilt you see here. The maker used a mix of dramatic fabrics in shades of teal, gray, black and white to contrast within a complex pattern and create what appears to be three dimensional depth. Her quilting within the main part of the quilt emphasizes the pattern this by mirroring the peaks and valleys of this Bargello pattern. (Item 1025)
Handmade Amish Table Runner in Star Dahlia Pattern
How about a little bit of kitchen art? Our table runners are made by the same makers of our large and baby quilts. Made entirely of dye fast cottons, fully handmade.
Here’s a Double Wedding Ring baby quilt that has been scaled down to baby size. Dye fast fabrics are a mix of solids and prins over a white background. The edges are scalloped and hand bound. Hand quilted hearts are featured in the centers of the rings.
This quilt pattern changes, depending upon how you look at it. It can be seen as flowers with four or eight petals, or, one is reminded of a large flock of blackbirds taking off or settling in a tree. There is constant movement and it’s a beautiful pattern, accomplished by some gorgeous piecing of nothing but triangles. This quilt is entirely black and a creamy unbleached cotton, and the sharp contrast between dark and light is what creates the fluid negative and positive interchange of spaces.
There is also a weave – almost like a woven basket – that becomes prominent when the quilt is viewed on a diagonal. This quilt pattern is called Arachne’s Quilt after the master weaver who, in Greco-Roman mythology, challenged Athena to a weaving contest. For this hubris, Arachne was changed into a spider: the greatest weaver of all.

A handmade Amish baby quilt – covered with embroidered animals!
If you’re a lover of and appreciate embroidery, this is the quilt for you. The maker created this piece so that every detail is intriguing, including her “shading” technique, whereby she uses different colors of embroidery thread to create depth.
Every baby quilt is different. The photos here represent a sampling of this particular pattern. Your quilt may differ slightly.
Boston Common Amish Quilt traditional Boston Common Amish quilt pattern – with a few twists!
Ours is an innovative twist on a traditional Boston Common Amish quilt pattern. The maker took the pattern and literally turned it on its side. So, rather than a rectangular pattern, the Boston Common quilt pattern is in a diamond shape. And, rather that piece a diamond of the same colors in the inner space of this quilt, she hand appliqued and embroidered a heart shaped wreath of flowers – complete with butterflies. And apparently this wasn’t enough! On our Boston Common Amish quilt the maker also embroidered and appliqued a garland of flowers at the head, foot and sides of this quilt to compliment the central wreath. Finally, there’s so much hand quilting in our Boston Common Amish quilt, we don’t know where to tell you to look first!

The many layers of fabric make this potholder a great and functional decorative item. They look great in your kitchen and protect your hands, kitchen and dining surfaces from heat damage. Each potholder has a loop for hanging. Created using quilt grade cotton fabrics.
Approximate dimensions: 7.25″ X 7.25″ – $30.00 (for the pair)
Applique quilts are difficult to make and time consuming to finish, so we seldom have them in the shop. This Country Garden quilt is filled with hand cut and appliqued flowers, buds, leaves, branches and bows. The maker chose shades of blue and hand appliqued all elements over a light background for contrast. She also appliqued garlands of flowers around the borders and on the portion of the quilt that will cover your pillows. The entire quilt is heavily quilted with some very precise and tiny stitches.
Our Lone Star Amish quilt is well pieced and hand quilted. The central star of this quilt is created by sewing together hundreds of small diamond-shaped pieces of fabric. Have a look at the diamonds the maker used to create the central star and you can easily see that every diamond is hand quilted on each of it’s four sides. That’s a lot of hand quilting! It’s also easy to see that our Lone Star Amish quilt is covered with precise and tiny hand quilted stitches. A central star pattern is difficult to execute. This one is a beauty made up of a gorgeous mix of earth tone and jewel tone fabrics.

This unique Pineapple Wholecloth quilt was created using a seamless piece of unbleached muslin that is off-white in color. We have had this quilter’s Feathered Pineapple quilts in the past, but this quilt is one of a kind. It contains more quilting, a wider array of patterns of varying difficulty and is overall a much more intricate design. We love the way that this quilt drapes – be sure to have a look at the photos of the sides and borders of this quilt. Quilting is precise and tight. This quilt maker’s skills are off the chart. This could be the most beautiful wholecloth we’ve ever had.
The story of the Stars Over the Georgetown Path quilt pattern is quite interesting. Folklore suggests that this beautiful quilt pattern describes the journey of those seeking to escape slavery by traveling to and reaching the northern states and beyond into Canada.
In the middle of the quilt burns a traditional 8-pointed Amish star: a star of faith, conviction and courage. In order to avoid detection and recapture, escapees had to travel at night. They relied upon the stars to point the way north, as represented by the stars that ring the quilt. After the inner Amish star is the pattern Drunkard’s Path which represents the evasive maneuvers taken to avoid detection. Like the rivers and streams followed by escapees, the Drunkards Path is meandering and winding. This is a strong, beautiful Amish textile.
A beautiful and contemporary Winners Circle quilt in a traditional calico print
The quilt maker is clearly accomplished with regard to the difficult task of sewing together curved pieces of fabric. An interesting point about this Winners Circle Amish quilt is that the maker didn’t create the curves from two sewn-together pieces of half curves. All curves are one piece of fabric. She hand quilted all of the pattern’s edges and in the open space between the circles, she hand quilted a feathered wreath. The maker chose a green calico print fabric and pieced it over a light background fabric. We think this is a perfect combination of colors, which also makes the the points, curves and circles of this pattern stand out.

The Old Order Amish are the largest group of Amish in America, and, in the world. No organization holds these people together. Rather, they are linked by their faith and traditions.
The Old Order Amish are conservative, non-reform and non-progressive. We understand them by seeing them as entirely “off-grid.” They choose to be separate from the rest of us (off-grid) in order not to be distracted from their faith and from their way of life.
Our Old Order Amish friends love to laugh. They shop at WalMart, will ride a train or call a non-Amish friend for a ride in a car. They will not operate a film camera but if shown how to use an iPad, will do so with enjoyment. They don’t have telephones, but if you leave a message the neighbor next door, they will return your call.
Their children are attentive, sweet and shy. When our Amish friend took her grandchildren for ice cream she had a large banana split. When this friend’s son was ill, he was brought to Pittsburg’s best hospital for tests.

Multicolored unisex colors include solid fabrics in blue, pink, yellow and green. Quilt is hand bound. Background is bright white. Each side of this quilt is hand bound in a different color. A Lone Star Amish Baby Quilt in unisex colors and heavily hand quilted.
Traditional Lone Star Amish baby quilt is comprised of a great mix of solids and patterned cotton fabrics. Colors include greens, yellows, blues and pinks. The artist truly outdid herself on this one, in particular with regard to her hand quilting. She put in a wide array of hand quilted patterns including feathers, braids and star flowers
A beautiful Amish 9 Patch quilt with appliqued hearts
This is a gorgeous 9 Patch Amish quilt, with a little extra! The maker used a wide array of earth tone colors and fabrics. A “typical” 9 Patch Amish quilt has open space between the colorful Patch squares. In the case of this quilt, the quilter took the extra step of placing appliqued hearts in each open square – all in colors and fabrics that coordinate with the 9 Patch squares. There is so much hand quilting in this quilt. In addition to hand quilting around every appliqued heart, you’ll see that every side of each of the 9 squares of fabric that make up 9 Patch squares is hand quilted.
An Amish 9 Patch Calico Quilt – heavily hand quilted and perfectly pieced
Our Amish 9 Patch Calico quilt is perfectly pieced. The maker hand quilted all four sides of each square of calico fabric. Every 9 Patch square is set off by adjacent squares, in which the maker hand quilted flower medallions. The hand quilted squares nicely compliment the colorful 9 Patch squares. The wide border of the quilt is heavily hand quilted on all sides.
An interesting Log Cabin Barn Raising quilt in rich calico prints
Our Barn Raising Log Cabin, whether seen on a sunny day, gray day or at night lit by the glow of a bedside lamp, is very warm, cozy, inviting and comforting. The maker created this quilt using a wide variety of calico prints in jewel tone shade. These fabrics create interesting patterns throughout the quilt: some you see outright and some appear depending upon where you are and how you look at the quilt (directly or indirectly). This quilt is expertly pieced. Hand quilting on the “logs” is in the ditch. The background fabric of this quilt is a light tan and heavily hand quilted with a feathered garland pattern.
Approximate dimensions: 100″ X 116″ – $1,175.00SOLD
Our Hearts of Roses applique Amish quilt is heavily hand quilted. The maker appliqued a large Heart of Roses over the central portion of the quilt. She also appliqued the same roses, buds and leaves across the pillow cover portion of the quilt, behind which is a hand quilted heart pattern. Finally, she mirrored the central applique with smaller bouquets at each corner. The appliqued roses depict the flower in various stages of bloom. All flowers and leaves are free hand cut and artfully tied together with embroidered stems. The maker’s fabrics visually blend well against the light, heavily hand quilted background.
Approximate dimensions: 102″ X 112″ – $1,250.00SOLD
Here is a special version of a traditional Lone Star Amish quilt – a pattern Amish Spirit Quilts is known for. It’s made, this time, only of black and various shades of gray print fabrics, pieced over an ivory background. It’s a very strong quilt. The fabrics are great. The piecing, while extremely difficult, is perfect and carries some of the very best hand quilting you’ll find anywhere. Most of all, there is a lot of extra thought and work that went into the design and construction of this Lone Star quilt.
The borders of the quilt are pieced with diamonds. They repeat the shapes and colors in the large central star. The top and the bottom are the same but variant on the sides to add visual movement. The sash work of the quilt is also special. Rather than a solid stripe of color or various strips of patterned fabric, the maker sewed together dozens and dozens of diamonds to make the strip of fabric she used for the sash work.
A beautiful quilt for a king or a queen size bed – and completely one of a kind!
A Traditional Double Wedding Ring Amish Quilt in rich jewel tone calico fabrics
Our new jewel tone calico Double Wedding Ring is beautiful. The Double Wedding Ring inspires thoughts of romance, marriage and family: of lives lived together. In this pattern, the quilter combined gorgeous jewel tones to give this traditional pattern extra life and joy. She also hand quilted flowers in the centers of each ring. The linked ring pattern goes all the way to the quilt’s edges. All four sides of this quilt are scalloped and hand bound. A little tidbit for lovers of the Double Wedding Ring quilt pattern – this quilt was not paper pieced! (Item: 2146)
Amish Star Spin quilt – also (aptly) called a Spinning Star
An unusual color palette for this Amish Spin Star Quilt. We typically see Star Spin patterns in black and jewel tones. The artist took a different path this time. Her stately Star Spin is of green and bronze. The other real thriller of this quilt is the hand quilting. The corner and smaller stars are bound by hand quilted frames. The artist mirrors this geometric pattern in the cross hatch quilting around the central star. Look closely and you’ll also see feather patterns.
For a very long time we worked with one quilter who was able to make this quilt. She made a few per year and was quite accomplished. When we lost her we never thought we’d find someone else who wanted to learn to make this very difficult and complicated pattern. We did find another quilt maker who honors her friend and creates only one or two Moonglows annually. She’s also very very adept with this pattern.
Made using Jinny Beyer quilt grade cottons. Each non-star square is comprised of more than 20 different fabrics. Lots and lots of hand quilting throughout. Have look at the stars and you’ll see that the fabrics are pieced, not appliqued. And for lovers of quilts, here’s an interesting tidbit: the maker pieced this quilt by hand and did NOT paper piece! (Item 2191)
Our Country Flowers applique quilt has a lovely surprise. Look closely and you’ll see the hummingbird hoovering above the central flowers. The humming bird, flowers, stems, leaves, bows and trim are all freehand cut and hand appliqued. At each corner of the central panel the maker repeated this motif with additional appliqued bouquets. And lastly, another bouquet with a garland on the pillow cover portion of the quilt. She skillfully placed hand quilting throughout the quilt. (Item 2097)
The Amish live a pretty austere life (it’s far from simple, but it is austere). As for quilts, however, quilters like to play with color, pattern and design. Sometimes, they do so eagerly. A Mariners Star is a complex pattern that requires a lot of skill to make. This Mariners Star shows the skill it took to make it but it’s also an example of the ingenuity of a quilter who is freely, successfully and happily exploring pattern, fabric and color combinations. (Item 2227)
If you’re a lover of and appreciate embroidery, this is the quilt for you. Animals include a bunny, kitten, puppy, elephant, duck and fawn. Approximate dimensions: 38″ X 47″ – $250.00SOLD

Center Diamond Red – a very traditional Amish quilt
A Center Diamond Red is one of the most traditional Amish quilt patterns. It never ceases to amaze how modern these quilts really are. We have here “an extraordinary juxtaposition of glowing colors and a powerful simplicity of design that parallels abstract art at it’s best”*
Color field, minimalist, abstract painting. Think Mark Rothko, Ellsworth Kelly, Barnett Newman amongst others. And, at least 75 years before this movement, there were Red Center Diamond Amish quilts. If you don’t have millions of dollars, buy an Amish quilt!
Approximate dimensions 98″ X 112″ – $1,200.00SOLD – Special Order Only
If you like quilts with a lot of hand quilting, have a look at our Wholecloth Amish Quilts. Our Heirloom quilt has a similar center star hand quilted pattern. This time, it’s a white on white quilt.
* Quote by Phyllis Haders in the article “Quilts: The Art of the Amish” from “America’s Glorious Quilts,” edited by D. Duke and D. Harding.
A Traditional Amish Patchwork Quilt in beautiful fall shades
Our Amish Patchwork quilt is both soothing and luscious. The quilter created it using colors that are similar to those used by the French Impressionist, Monet in his “Water Lilies” paintings. By themselves the 16 squares of fabric that make each patchwork square would not give the quilt the visual strength that it has. However, with the maker’s addition of the triangles on all four sides of the patchwork squares, the overall design is balanced and integrated. The patchwork squares touch and the open areas of the quilt coexist with the patchwork squares in negative and positive space. The maker ties it all together with a quilted navy blue sash.
Here is a beautiful Amish Broken star quilt. The artist used an array of jewel toned burgundies and blues over a white background. As with any star pattern quilt, the piecing must be perfect to line up the many small diamond shaped pieces of fabric necessary to create a star within a star such as this. Every side of every diamond both the central and the outer star is hand quilted. Flowing feather hand quilted patterns surround the star. And just for good measure, there’s a hand quilted heart at each corner of this quilt.
Approximate dimensions: 97″ X 112″ – SOLD – Special Order Only
This beautiful Log Cabin quilt is made of a selection of blue patterned fabrics. Many of these fabrics are accented with silver thread. The strips of fabric used to make the logs are very small and narrow. Every side of every log is quilted in the ditch. There is generous and precise hand quilting along the sides of this quilt. The bottom photo shows the two different twisted rope quilted patterns on each side. The history of the Log Cabin quilt pattern is interesting. You can read more about it in an article on American quilting history entitled “Underground Railroad Quilts & Abolitionist Fairs.“
An incredibly versatile pattern, be sure to also read up on its history on our Handmade Quilts page.
Sunshine and Shadows Baby Quilt – This quilt pattern is also called Trip Around the World and is one of the most popular traditional Amish Quilt Patterns. Our Sunshine and Shadows Baby Quilt is made up of varying shades of what many call traditional “Amish blue” fabric. We love this quilt for so many reasons. The hand quilted patterns around the borders are unique – we have not seen this pattern before or since. The back is of this baby quilt is the darkest blue shade you see on the front of the quilt. The hand quilting is precise and made up of tiny stitches. The hand bound edge is of a contrasting lighter blue. You can truly use and show off either side of this infant quilt. Please note that there is no loop for hanging on the back of this quilt. Approximate dimensions: 44.5″ X 56.5″ – SOLD
