Patchwork quilts are deceptively difficult to create. Only the best “piecers” possess the skills to line up and match the corners of each square to create a cohesive quilt. This Patchwork baby quilt was made using an interesting mix of contemporary and traditional fabrics.
Double Wedding Ring Amish Quilt in rich jewel tone calico fabrics
Our new jewel tone calico Double Wedding Ring is beautiful. The Double Wedding Ring inspires thoughts of romance, marriage and family: of lives lived together. In this pattern, the quilter combined gorgeous jewel tones to give this traditional pattern extra life and joy. She also hand quilted flowers in the centers of each ring. The linked ring pattern goes all the way to the quilt’s edges. All four sides of this quilt are scalloped and hand bound. A little tidbit for lovers of the Double Wedding Ring quilt pattern – this quilt was not paper pieced! (Item: 2164)

Our Crazy Patch wall hanging was made by our head quilter. Her embroidered stitch-work is brilliantly adroit: a garden of embroidery nourished by the fabrics.
Most people have seen crazy quilts – they are made of differently shaped pieces of material – there is no pattern: just a collage of fabrics with fancy embroidered stitches covering the edges of each piece of fabric. This time, the maker downsized to a wall hanging – a beautiful piece of art for any wall.
Crazy quilt patterns can be constructed of fabrics such as velvet, satin and silk and can be embellished with complicated and varied embroider patterns, buttons, lace, ribbons and beads. They can be found in many museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian.

The maker of this gorgeous Chrysalis Star Amish quilt used both print and solid fabrics, pieced in radiating patterns, to create this quilt. During the Revolutionary War, church dolls were made for little girls to carry and bring with them into church services. Dolls were given to young girls to keep them occupied during what could be day-long church services. The dolls were made entirely of cloth so that when they were dropped in church they would not make noise and disturb the service. Church dolls were revived during the Civil War as remembrances for those who went to fight and given as keepsakes to soldiers representing the loved ones they’d left behind.
Traditional Amish dolls differ a bit from typical dolls. The Amish follow scripture that indicates they should not make graven images, therefore, their dolls are faceless. The clothes of Amish dolls are created to be like the clothes Amish women wear – typically neutral and monochromatic. This reflects the humble nature of the Amish. All dolls bring out the maturity in children and draw the child out in adults.

Pineapple Log Cabin Amish quilt in rich earth tones
This log cabin is quilted in the ditch, which is a lot of fabric to quilt through by hand. The curling tendrils quilted around the outer sash contrast nicely with the geometry of the logs, however, the logs themselves are the stars of this quilt by virtue of the beautiful prints out which they are made. (Item 2003)
Traditional Patchwork quilts are deceptively difficult to make. In the case of our Patchwork quit, it’s clear that the Amish quilter who designed and made this quilt has strong technical abilities. It took great skill to perfectly align every small square of fabric in this quilt. The maker’s selection of colors and fabrics is bold. While her chosen colors are strong, they manage to be unobtrusive in a way that this quilt presents itself well in a variety of places. Fabrics are an array of solids and prints. (Item 2035)
This aptly named Ocean Waves Amish quit is a variation on a Drunkards Path pattern. Ocean Waves patterns are made by piecing together hundreds of curved pieces of fabric. It’s a difficult process and only the best quilters can piece curves together to make this pattern. Look closely and you’ll also see that every small piece of pieced fabric has been hand quilted. Fabrics are pieced in a radiating pattern to give the quilt its name.
Appliqued hearts add interest to our 9 Patch quilt
This is a gorgeous 9 Patch Amish quilt, with a little extra! A “typical” 9 Patch Amish quilt has open space between the colorful Patch squares. In the case of this quilt, the quilter took the extra step of placing appliqued hearts in each open square – all in colors and fabrics that coordinate with the 9 Patch squares. There is so much hand quilting in this quilt. In addition to hand quilting around every appliqued heart, you’ll see that every side of each of the 9 squares of fabric that make up 9 Patch squares is hand quilted. (Item 2166)
Our Radiant Star Amish quilt is as close as we can get to a real star. It radiates energy via precise hand quilting. It is extraordinary due to a combination of elements: The piecing is perfect, the colors are highly unusual and beautiful and the quilting . . . just look at it. The maker is an amazing quilter, so take a moment, zoom in and really look at her amazing work. Even more, it’s not often you find patchwork piecing along with applique in the same quilt. (Item 2160)
Anyone who loves a traditional Double Wedding Ring pattern will love this pattern. The Winners Circle is an interesting variation on traditional conjoined ring quilt patterns. The maker is a pro at the difficult task of sewing together curved pieces of fabric. An interesting point about this quilt is that she didn’t create the curves from two sewn-together pieces. All curves are one piece of fabric. She hand quilted all edges and in the open space between the circles, she hand quilted a flower. (Item 2121)

We haven’t had a Postage Stamp Patchwork quilt in 8 years. Each square of fabric is the size of a postage stamp. It’s perfectly pieced and hand quilted throughout. You’ll never tire of looking at this classic quilt – every time do, you’ll see something different. (Item 1057)
The Log Cabin is among the most versatile of quilt patterns. The Log Cabin Barn Raising variation is a perfect example. The maker strategically pieced the “logs” of fabric to create an overall radiating pattern. She used a wide array of print fabrics to create and then hand quilt each “log”. We think this quilt is visually interesting and full of texture. (Item 2098)

Vintage (plus new!) Hand Sewn Hand Quilted Throw or Wall Hanging
This blanket is a mix of vintage and contemporary components. Purchased at an estate sale in New Milford, CT in the 1980’s we believe the fabrics are from the 1960’s. We love the muted, soft colors – especially since we no longer see them in today’s quilts. The quilt top was sewn together by hand and we felt it would be a shame to not finish it, making it into the contemporary quilt it deserves to be. We used a high loft batting, a soft pale blue cotton fabric for the back and added hanging loop and then hand quilted it into existence.
The result is a cozy, warm blanket (or throw) – great for napping. There is also a hanging sleeve sewn onto the back of the throw should you prefer to hang it on a wall. We love it!
Bargello Quilt – and ancient pattern adapted to make this beautiful quilt
The Bargello design, also called a “flame stitch,” was originally stitched into canvas and primarily used to make upholstery. In this case, a traditional Bargello pattern was adapted to create the Amish quilt you see here. The maker used a mix of dramatic fabrics in shades of teal, gray, black and white to contrast within a complex pattern and create what appears to be three dimensional depth. Her quilting within the main part of the quilt emphasizes the pattern this by mirroring the peaks and valleys of this Bargello pattern. (Item 1025)
A gorgeous Amish applique quilt – Heart of Roses pattern
Our Heart of Roses Amish quilt is a heavily hand quilted white quilt. The maker appliqued a large garland of freehand cut roses in the shape of a heart in the center of the quilt (giving the quilt it’s apt name, Heart of Roses). An appliqued tendril of roses stretches across the pillow cover portion of the quilt, behind which is a hand quilted feathered wreath pattern. She also appliqued small bouquets at each corner. The appliqued flowers are depicted in various stages from full bloom to tight buds and partially opened flowers. The quilter tied everything together with embroidered stems. The fabrics are a blend of traditional and contemporary prints in shades of burgundy, blue and green. (Item 2131)
Applique quilts are difficult to make and time consuming to finish. In the case of our Country Grapes applique Amish quilt, the maker filled it with hand cut and appliqued clusters of grapes, leaves and bows. The maker chose shades of purple and green and hand appliqued all elements over a light background for contrast. She also appliqued beautiful elements over the portion of the quilt that will cover your pillows. The entire quilt is heavily quilted with some very precise and complimentary hand embroidery and is hand bound. This quilt literally is a grapevine – for your bedroom! (Item 2108)

Here a Cathedral Windows pattern is used to make a bedspread. What you see isn’t a quilt: there is no batting. However, this spread is made of many layers of folded fabrics held together by really tiny hand stitches. So tiny as not to be believed. And even though there isn’t batting in this textile, it is heavier than a traditional quilt because of how densely packed together are the layers of fabrics. It is a beautiful textile. Check out the fabrics chosen for this spread. (Item 2124)

This quilt pattern changes, depending upon how you look at it. It can be seen as flowers with four or eight petals, or, one is reminded of a large flock of blackbirds taking off or settling in a tree. There is constant movement and it’s a beautiful pattern, accomplished by some gorgeous piecing of nothing but triangles. This quilt is entirely black and a creamy unbleached cotton, and the sharp contrast between dark and light is what creates the fluid negative and positive interchange of spaces.
There is also a weave – almost like a woven basket – that becomes prominent when the quilt is viewed on a diagonal. This quilt pattern is called Arachne’s Quilt after the master weaver who, in Greco-Roman mythology, challenged Athena to a weaving contest. For this hubris, Arachne was changed into a spider: the greatest weaver of all.

This pattern suits either of its names: Fence Rail or Roman Bars. Our Amish quilt for sale is made entirely of various shades of contemporary gray print and solid fabrics. Quilted in the ditch of each “bar” or “rail” and heavily hand quilted around the quilt’s borders and sash work. The maker placed the darkest charcoal fabric to provide an optical illusion of a basket weave pattern.
A handmade Amish baby quilt – covered with embroidered animals!
If you’re a lover of and appreciate embroidery, this is the quilt for you. The maker created this piece so that every detail is intriguing, including her “shading” technique, whereby she uses different colors of embroidery thread to create depth.
Every baby quilt is different. The photos here represent a sampling of this particular pattern. Your quilt may differ slightly.
Boston Common Amish Quilt traditional Boston Common Amish quilt pattern – with a few twists!
Ours is an innovative twist on a traditional Boston Common Amish quilt pattern. The maker took the pattern and literally turned it on its side. So, rather than a rectangular pattern, the Boston Common quilt pattern is in a diamond shape. And, rather that piece a diamond of the same colors in the inner space of this quilt, she hand appliqued and embroidered a heart shaped wreath of flowers – complete with butterflies. And apparently this wasn’t enough! On our Boston Common Amish quilt the maker also embroidered and appliqued a garland of flowers at the head, foot and sides of this quilt to compliment the central wreath. Finally, there’s so much hand quilting in our Boston Common Amish quilt, we don’t know where to tell you to look first!
Our Love Doves applique quilt is a heavily hand quilted white quilt. The maker appliqued alternating squares of flower garlands and love doves to cover the main portion of the quilt. An appliqued tendril of flowers and doves stretches across the pillow cover portion of the quilt. Be sure to have a look at our detail photos to view the maker’s impressive hand quilting.
The appliqued flowers are depicted in various stages of bloom. Each flower, bud and leaf is free hand cut. Hand appliqued elements are tied together with embroidered stems. (Item 2115)
The story of the Stars Over the Georgetown Path quilt pattern
We believe this beautiful quilt describes the journey of those seeking to escape slavery by traveling to and reaching the northern states and beyond into Canada.
In the middle of the quilt burns a traditional 8-pointed Amish star: a star of faith, conviction and courage. In order to avoid detection and recapture, escapees had to travel at night. They relied upon the stars to point the way north, as represented by the stars that ring the quilt. After the inner Amish star is the pattern Drunkard’s Path which represents the evasive maneuvers taken to avoid detection. Like the rivers and streams followed by escapees, the Drunkards Path is meandering and winding. The border you see is specific to this pattern and not seen in any other quilt. This is a strong, beautiful Amish textile. (Item 2171)

Our Jack in the Box Amish quilt for sale is a really great, modern twist on a Pin Wheel quilt pattern. A hand pieced quilt (it’s not paper pieced) made up of hundreds of small triangle shaped pieces of fabric, the maker hand quilted each side of each triangle. She also incorporated some really beautiful hand quilted patterns around the quilt’s borders. The maker chose contrasting shades of blue, gray and black for this beauty.
American oral tradition suggests that the Drunkards Path quilt design was used along the Underground Railroad. Some even say that this pattern was used as an icon of the Women’s Temperance Movement. We look at this quilt and just think it’s beautiful!
Drunkards Path quilts are difficult to find, mostly because it’s difficult to cut, piece and hand quilt. It’s a particularly challenging pattern to make due to the curved pieces that make up the pattern. Due to the complexity of the design, construction involves pinning together many moving pieces to form the pattern. In the case of our Drunkards Path the maker chose two contrasting colors to create a lot of drama. Every single curved piece is hand quilted. There are also complimentary fluid twist patterns hand quilted along the borders of this quilt.

A Courthouse Steps Amish quilt in bold contrasting colors!
The Courthouse Steps quilt pattern is a variation on a traditional Log Cabin. In the case of this quilt, the maker alternated blocks of paisley print fabrics with solids. All “logs” are quilted in the ditch. There is an enormous amount of hand quilting as a result. A wide black border is carries a hand quilted garland pattern. The contrasting colors of this quilt are particularly interesting and make this a versatile quilt. This quilt is one of our favorites (and we may keep it for ourselves!). A large king size quilt for a king size bed.

A an interesting and beautiful Amish Patchwork Quilt

This variation on a Broken Star quilt pattern is sometimes called a Fan Star. It’s the first we’ve had in many years. The maker used an array of print and solid fabrics and pieced them from dark to light to dark again. The quilt’s light background both contrasts and compliments the pattern and the fabrics. This Broken Star quilt is a stunner, with feathered wreaths and garlands hand quilted patterns throughout. (Item 1064)
Our Lone Star Amish quilt is well pieced and hand quilted. The central star of this quilt is created by sewing together hundreds of small diamond-shaped pieces of fabric. Have a look at the diamonds the maker used to create the central star and you can easily see that every diamond is hand quilted on each of it’s four sides. That’s a lot of hand quilting! It’s also easy to see that our Lone Star Amish quilt is covered with precise and tiny hand quilted stitches. A central star pattern is difficult to execute. This one is a beauty made up of a gorgeous mix of earth tone and jewel tone fabrics.
Our fans and friends who really know us are well aware that we have this “thing” about quilts as art: We’re easily riled when someone calls a quilt an “arts and crafts” item, or describes a quilt or quilt maker as “crafty.” We are firm believers that quilts truly are art!
Our first Pineapple Log Cabin quilt in ages!
Detail of Pineapple Log Cabin quilt
After a very long spell we recently we received one Pineapple Log Cabin quilt. Then, very shortly thereafter, a second. There aren’t many makers of this pattern. It’s a lot of very small pieces of fabric, making it unwieldy and enormously time consuming to piece. All those little pieces result in a hand-quilting nightmare. It took years to find a maker willing to take on the task and now we get a Pineapple Log Cabin quilt in once every 18 or so months. As you can imagine, we were happy to have two!
Pineapple Log Cabin in its gorgeous forever home!
We sold one of our Pineapples immediately – to one of the nicest and kindest people we’ve met since starting this business. We’re always happy when one of our quilts goes to a good home and this Pineapple went to one of the best. The buyer loves her quilt and put it to good use immediately. She took this picture and sent it to us. We wanted to share this with you because think you’ll agree that this is one really good-looking quilt!
