A Dramatic and Different Lone Star Amish Quilt
Here is a special version of a traditional Lone Star Amish quilt – a pattern Amish Spirit Quilts is known for. It’s made, this time, only of black and various shades of gray print fabrics, pieced over an ivory background. It’s a very strong quilt. The fabrics are great. The piecing, while extremely difficult, is perfect and carries some of the very best hand quilting you’ll find anywhere. Most of all, there is a lot of extra thought and work that went into the design and construction of this Lone Star quilt.
The borders of the quilt are pieced with diamonds. They repeat the shapes and colors in the large central star. The top and the bottom are the same but variant on the sides to add visual movement. The sash work of the quilt is also special. Rather than a solid stripe of color or various strips of patterned fabric, the maker sewed together dozens and dozens of diamonds to make the strip of fabric she used for the sash work.
