An ingenious Log Cabin pattern – that’s round

The Log Cabin in the Round is made by arranging bars of fabric (or “logs”) in a way that creates arcs or curves. This is done with a piecing technique whereby the light colored logs are thicker than the colorful darker logs. Matched up, the variance in thickness gives what appears to be a curve or arc. The maker quilted every log “in the ditch.”  Hand quilted feather patterns cover all of the remaining space.  Colors in this quilt include various gray, black and burgundy.  The quilter chose a variety of print fabrics and pieced them over a light background for contrast. Log Cabin in the Round Quilt – a Log Cabin pattern variation

Imagine rectangular “logs” of fabric arranged in such a way as to create curves!  This is a very interesting variation of a traditional Log Cabin Quilt pattern.  The light “logs” are actually thicker than the colorful “logs”.  This difference in size makes piecing much more difficult but it also creates the resulting round shapes.  The quilter did a superb job of piecing this quilt.  Every log is quilted “in the ditch.”  Hand quilted feather patterns cover all of the remaining space. Fabrics are a mix of solids and prints in a wide array of colors. (Item 2213)
