This special king size Star Log Cabin Amish quilt is made of patterned fabrics filled with teeny little prints in the colors and shades of spring and summer. What is even more special is that if you look at the light colored fabrics (the light “logs”), you’ll see that they are all different white-on-white shadow patterned fabrics. Even more, in a normal Log Cabin quilt, the quilt maker cuts the longest logs – many at a time – then many more. Then the next length of logs are cut, also in multiples, and so on. While this method saves huge amounts of time can result in repetition: each block is identical. In this Star Log Cabin, however, the white-on-white logs were cut one at a time in different lengths. There is no repetition and this results in a more organic pattern – like seeds and insects that fill the air in the warm seasons. A masterpiece! The back of this quilt is appropriately a shadow patterned light blue cotton. Perfection!
