A beautiful twist on a traditional Texas Star Amish quilt pattern

A rare Kaleidoscope Amish Quilt
We know we say nice things about all of our quilts – they all have a lot of heart. But this one (another quilt we’ve never had or seen) is remarkable. To create this quilt top, the maker took a specific area of fabric, cut this area into matching pieces and fit them precisely together. As you can see, she achieved (in a quilt) what you would see when looking through a kaleidoscope. And look – each kaleidoscopic star is completely different! You can’t know how difficult it is – and for many reasons – to make a quilt like this. This is a quilt we truly love!
Approximate dimensions: 107″ x 110″ – $1,350.00

Beginning in the very center, it’s fitting that a spinning pinwheel generates the energy for the inner Amish Star, which is the center of another scintillating and beautifully made Amish Star. The piecing of fabrics is exciting an daring. The quilting is thoughtful. It’s a restless and exploding, yet contained star pattern – brilliantly designed: How do you achieve achieve expanding diamonds and rectangular logs that become curves? A beautiful Star Spin Amish quilt all in shades of navy blue. Superb quilting and piecing. the Amish never cease to amaze: an entire array of sensations or feeling (kind of a poem) can be unlocked based upon the quilter’s choice of fabrics. In this quilt there are the four seasons: the feel of a snowstorm on your face, even the taste of snow on your tongue, spring on a mild afternoon and a lush summer’s night, autumn is in this Star Spin quilt too – all from fabrics. The white-on-white fabric generates the stars’ spin and the forward march of the seasons. (Item 2230)

This patchwork Lone Star is so countrified. So authentic. It’s like it belongs in an old country house with a thatched roof, nestled into an old growth garden. We deeply love this quilt. It has taught us that occasionally a masterpiece quilt is made that is more than fabrics, pattern, piecing and quilting. Yes, more than any of these aspects: It is high art. It is magic. It will coat the way moss covers a tree limb or rock. This is one of the heaviest and most luxuriously soft quilts we have handled. It will become part of you.
Approximate dimensions: 96” X 110” – $1,050.00

We believe this beautiful quilt describes the journey of those seeking to escape slavery by traveling to and reaching the northern states and beyond into Canada.
In the middle of the quilt burns a traditional 8-pointed Amish star: a star of faith, conviction and courage. In order to avoid detection and recapture, escapees had to travel at night. They relied upon the stars to point the way north, as represented by the stars that ring the quilt. After the inner Amish star is the pattern Drunkard’s Path which represents the evasive maneuvers taken to avoid detection. Like the rivers and streams followed by escapees, the Drunkards Path is meandering and winding. This is a strong, beautiful Amish textile. (Item 2171)
Approximate dimensions: 101″ X 112″ – $1350.00

Our Spin Star Amish quilt is both beautiful and contemporary. Take a look at the first border of mini spinning stars and the complexity of these shapes: how they are pieced and constructed.
