Beautifully embroidered Amish Crazy Quilt

Our “Crazy Patch” quilt was made by the head Amish quilter. The fabrics she chose are magnificent. Her  embroidered stitch-work is brilliantly adroit: a garden of embroidery nourished by the fabrics. What a textile! What a quilt!

Most people have seen crazy quilts – they are made of differently shaped pieces of material – there is no pattern: just a collage of fabrics with fancy embroidered stitches covering the edges of each piece of fabric.

Crazy quilts can be constructed of fabrics such as velvet, satin and silk and can be embellished with buttons, lace, ribbons and beads. They can be found in many museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian. Crazy quilts require thousands of hours to complete. None that we have seen are more beautiful than this quilt, which we are proud to offer.

A traditional and colorful Patchwork Quilt

Traditional Patchwork quilts are deceptively difficult to make. In the case of our Patchwork quit, it’s clear that the Amish quilter who designed and made this quilt has strong technical abilities. It took great skill to perfectly align every small square of fabric in this quilt. The maker’s selection of colors and fabrics is bold. While her chosen colors are strong, they manage to be unobtrusive in a way that this quilt presents itself well in a variety of places. Fabrics are an array of solids and prints. (Item 2035)

Appliqued hearts add interest to our 9 Patch quilt

This is a gorgeous 9 Patch Amish quilt, with a little extra!  A “typical” 9 Patch Amish quilt has open space between the colorful Patch squares.  In the case of this quilt, the quilter took the extra step of placing appliqued hearts in each open square – all in colors and fabrics that coordinate with the 9 Patch squares. There is so much hand quilting in this quilt. In addition to hand quilting around every appliqued heart, you’ll see that every side of each of the 9 squares of fabric that make up 9 Patch squares is hand quilted. (Item 2166)

Fence Rail (or Roman Bars) Amish Quilt For Sale

This pattern suits either of its names: Fence Rail or Roman Bars. Our Amish quilt for sale is made entirely of various shades of contemporary gray print and solid fabrics. Quilted in the ditch of each “bar” or “rail” and heavily hand quilted around the quilt’s borders and sash work. The maker placed the darkest charcoal fabric to provide an optical illusion of a basket weave pattern.

A dramatic Jack in the Box Amish Quilt!

Our Jack in the Box Amish quilt for sale is a really great, modern twist on a Pin Wheel quilt pattern. A hand pieced quilt (it’s not paper pieced) made up of hundreds of small triangle shaped pieces of fabric, the maker hand quilted each side of each triangle. She also incorporated some really beautiful hand quilted patterns around the quilt’s borders. The maker chose contrasting shades of blue, gray and black for this beauty.

A perfectly pieced and beautifully hand quilted Amish Maple Leaf quilt

Our Amish Maple Leaf quilt was created via a tradition patchwork style using a mix of calico and contemporary fabrics. The maker used a wide array of jewel tones with complimentary blue sash work. There are many interesting and unusual characteristics specific to our Maple Leaf quilt. Each maple leaf block is made using more than 20 pieces of fabric. We love the fabrics and the subtle gradations the quilter has incorporated in the quilt top. She also makes sure that each leaf is a little bit different. Her sash work, while subtle, is difficult to piece: at the intersection around each Maple Leaf she pieced a small square of complimentary fabric. (Item 2050)
