This Dresden Plate Amish quilt in blue fabrics has a lot of extras! First, the pattern: It became popular in the depression era of the 20th century as a way for quilters to create quilts out of fabric scraps. The plates are lovely and this quilt features two extra plates that will cover the pillow portion of your bed. And look at that extra quilting around these plates. Also striking: there is a three sided border in a pattern called Ice Cream Cone. Blue, like a blue sky always puts all of us in a good and positive mood. A feel good quilt.

The Amish have made a superb Broken Dishes quilt out of a pink and white calico print and a solid ivory fabric. This is an arduous quilt that requires the utmost in skill and determination. Small triangles are perfectly pieced and each piece of fabric is quilted on all sides. The quilting is uniform and well executed. What should not be overlooked is how the predominately geometric aspect of this quilt pattern is set off and contained within curvilinear floral quilting on and around the quilt’s ivory borders, just inside the binding. This quilt is an archetypal Color Splash: the finest we’ve ever seen. It comes from North Carolina. It isn’t new and it is in perfect condition. This is a hand quilted textile. It is an important and one of a kind quilt that was made around 75 to 90 years ago. The fabrics are long extinct. Some of them are miraculously beautiful contributing to this quilt’s radiance. Every 1.25″ square of fabric is hand quilted on all four sides! There are 6,724 squares! Art for the bedroom, for the bed or, for a wall.

9 Patch Amish quilts are usually pieced with sashes between each 9 Patch square. This time the maker eliminated all sashes and sewed the 9 Patch square to each other. The overall effect is that of shimmering water. The solid fabrics in this quilt are traditional Amish and nicely compliment the print fabrics. Be sure to view the detail photos: the quilt’s borders are heavily hand quilted with intertwined hearts and doves.

This 9 Patch Amish quilt is heavily hand quilted, and, the fabrics are beautiful. What we like best about this traditional pattern is that every time you look at a good 9 Patch quilt you see something you haven’t noticed before! This Amish 9 Patch is the most, by far, traditional Amish quilt that we have had. The colors are Amish. These are the colors the Amish wear. No patterns. No frivolity. Solids. But wow is this quit a beauty, and, it stands out! It is radiant yet very peaceful. More: you are watching the sun set over a lake, through the trees, clear sky turning to dusk. Wow, folks. A Winters Night. We haven’t had a Winters Night quilt in almost 5 years. Love the pattern. Love the geometry. Great fabrics and always Amish world class piecing and hand quilting. In this quilt, the pattern and the fabrics especially stand out: because, while this quilt is full of motion it has a quietude. You know that during the night quiet while snow is falling, or the quiet of an early morning after a snowy night? This has it.

This is a beautiful Amish Patchwork king size Amish quilt. Even the sash is patchwork-y: a double Patchwork! A flower patterned fabric was also used for the sash work and binding. The fabrics are well chosen; overall the quilt is fertile and rich. The back of the quilt is a ruby color fabric. Best of all, the quilter used a high-loft batting which is rare because this type of batting makes it much hard to hand quilt. So this quilt is thick, heavy, soft, warm and cuddly . . . a perfect quilt in all ways, always!

This pink and ivory Jacob’s Ladder works well on both king and queen sized beds. Each piece of fabric is hand quilted on all sides (a lot of quilting!). The floral hand quilting along the ivory sash of our Jacob’s Ladder quilt sets off and contrasts with the piecing giving unity and balance to this quilt overall.
