Amish black and white Lone Star quilt.
We had a lot of fun making this quilt. The artist wanted to create something different – a tradition pattern but updated for a more contemporary look. She decided on an ivory background and we picked an array of what we thought were all “black” fabrics. Just take a look at the color in this quilt! Yes, it’s black and ivory but there are also many shades of gray, a little blue, a tad bit of pale green and even some very soft lavender. Together we chose a mix of batik prints and paisley. The artist’s diamonds are pieced near-perfectly: her Lone star is six layers of prints which grow successively lighter, then dark, then light again and finally the dark tip. She also absolutely nailed it with her hand quilting. Be sure to take a look at the detail photos to see the feather, garlands, etc. that cover this quilt. This is a truly elegant quilt. It’s a perfect mix of the traditional and contemporary.
