An interesting twist on a tradition Amish Flower Garden quilt pattern
Our traditional Amish Flower Garden required no less than several months to complete. The quilt top consists of thousands of hexagon shaped pieces of material. Every hexagon fits precisely into and with neighboring hexagons. Furthermore, the maker carefully selected colorful prints to be combined into “flowers” resulting in quite the basket of flowers.
Her quilting is really interesting. Every hexagon is quilted on all six sides except for the flower petals, which are quilted on four sides. The quilting is omitted on the two sides where the petals of the same ring and fabric touch one another. She same type quilting is executed in the basket to make it appear to be woven. This quilting in conjunction with the selection of prints and color palette makes the flowers really pop. The maker uses the same fabric for each flower center to further unify the overall pattern.
You will rarely see this pattern because it requires so much time and effort to design and quilt.
