Amish Spirit: Handmade Quilts For Sale
The Dresden Plate quilt pattern is a circular arrangement of petal-shaped fabrics. This pattern became popular in the 1920’s and 1930’s. During the Great Depression it was a way for quilters create something beautiful out of fabric scraps. This predominantly purple Dresden Plate quilt has visual movement and yet it is well rooted. It’s movement comes from the circular arrangement of patterned fabrics and from the swirling white-on-white shadow patterned fabric the maker used in the quilt’s open spaces. The stability of this quilt lies in the sameness of each plate and in its block format. (Also great is the sash work!)
